Dallas College Awarded $1 Million Job Training Grant

Governor Greg Abbott Announces $1M Skills Development Fund Grant to Dallas College Governor Greg Abbott declared on Thursday the awarding of a Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant of $1,009,383 to Dallas College. This grant, given by the Texas Workforce Commission in partnership with Mint Dentistry, Kpost Company, Kpost Roofing, On-Target Supplies and Logistics, and The Richards Group, aims to enhance job training. Dallas College will utilize the grant to offer specialized training to over 600 new and existing workers in various areas, including administration, project management, roofing, dental hygiene, material handling, and desktop support. Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of investing in Texas' diverse workforce to maintain the vitality of key industries within the state's economy. He acknowledged the grant's role in preparing North Texans for in-demand careers and supporting essential industries. The governor also expressed gratitude to the Texas Workforce Commission for its collaboration with Dallas College and local businesses in bringing this training opportunity to the workforce. TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel praised the employers involved in the grant, highlighting the Skills Development Fund's role in connecting colleges and employers to foster a skilled workforce. He noted that the award is a testament to the commitment of these employers to upskill their workforce in line with Texas' economic growth. The award presentation took place at a ceremony at the Dallas College Garland Center, with Daniel handing over the award to Dallas College and business representatives. The SDF, Texas' state workforce training grant program, assists businesses in upskilling their new or current employees. Governor Abbott highlighted the partnership between public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service in delivering tailored, innovative training to businesses of various sizes across Texas. The state reported that since its inception in 1996, the SDF grant program has partnered with over 4,800 employers, contributing to the enhancement or creation of more than 420,000 jobs in Texas.
