Over 90,000 Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru EVs Recalled for Defroster Defect
More than 90,000 Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru electric vehicles are being recalled due to faulty heating and cooling systems that could compromise driver visibility, federal regulators announced.
The recall covers 2023–2025 Toyota bZ4X, Lexus RZ, and Subaru Solterra models, according to a Sept. 5 notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The agency said some vehicles may experience electrical compressor failure within the HVAC system, which can disable the windshield defroster and defogger. If the system fails, frost or fog may obstruct the windshield, increasing the risk of a crash.
Owner notifications coming in October
Automakers plan to begin mailing recall notices by Oct. 20. Dealers will update HVAC software free of charge and inspect the electrical compressor, replacing it if necessary.
Toyota owners can call 1-800-331-4331 for more details. Recall numbers are:
Toyota bZ4X: 25TB07, 25TA07
Lexus RZ: 25LB04, 25LA04
Subaru Solterra: WRD-25
How to check your vehicle
Owners can confirm whether their vehicle is affected by searching the NHTSA recall database using their VIN or license plate number.
